Cold water swimming is enjoyed by many for the boost it can bring to both physical and mental wellbeing. Regular, safe exposure to colder water may offer a range of benefits:
- A natural post-swim high – Cold water triggers a powerful response in the body, and many swimmers report feeling energised and uplifted after a dip.
- Supports circulation – Exposure to cold water causes blood vessels to constrict and reopen as you warm up, stimulating circulation.
- Mental wellbeing – Many swimmers find cold water swimming helps them feel calmer, more positive and mentally refreshed.
- May help with recovery – Cold exposure is commonly used to help manage temporary muscle soreness following exercise.
